You may recall the story of the little girl and the starfish, how she liked to walk the beach and throw the starfish back in the ocean before they died. When informed by a “wise man” that because of the huge number washed ashore she couldn’t possibly make a difference, the young girl – unfazed – kept returning them one at a time saying “It made a difference to that one”.

At FAMILIES. BY GOD. that’s precisely our feeling toward America’s “fatherless” – those orphans trapped in the United State’s Child Welfare System awaiting adoption. While we know we can’t save the world (but Jesus can!), we do believe we can change it — one child at a time. Jesus, in quoting the Old Testament told us “the poor you will always have among you”; He gave no such directive for the fatherless.

If each church in the country merely supported through prayer, encouragement, or finances, one family out of its congregation to permanently adopt one child into their family, there would be no children left in America’s Child Welfare System.

Rather, we believe that it is precisely God’s heart to relieve ALL the fatherless of their afflictions. And that He doesn’t desire any of them go without an earthly Father as Adoption so much reflects God’s plan for salvation on the whole.

Thus, we have set some rather audacious goals.

First, we envision fostering a collaborative effort between Government, The Church, and Academia (i.e. colleges and universities) which puts “America’s Lost Kids” on the front page of every newspaper, the home page of every church website, and the right page of every college textbook.

Further, we believe it is our assignment to be the voice of the fatherless/orphans – past, future, and certainly present. It is with this in mind that we prominently present to you on this website “EARS to HEAR” our radio ministry specifically designed to “bang the drum” for America’s orphans. We are currently on 15 radio stations through the Mars Hill Radio Network where we reach across Upstate New York, Long Island, and into Canada. We want to expand; reaching every community with the “fate of the fatherless”, but we need your help. Click on EARS to HEAR above to find out how.

Finally, we see a day when each and every child freed to adoption in the United States is adopted by a Christian family. Currently there are 127, 000 children languishing in America’s Child Welfare System. If each church in the country merely supported through prayer, encouragement, or finances, one family out of its congregation to permanently adopt one child into their family, there would be no children left in America’s Child Welfare System.

If you remember your history, you’ll recall the old orphan trains which carried city kids to the country in pursuit of a better life. Well, this train is leaving the station and we want you on board. Please check out our  “STORIES” page where you can share your adoption story: tell us why you adopted, or, tell us why you didn’t. We are creating a forum where you can tell us what needs to change in the Child Welfare System, or tell us what we need to change in our approach. Feel free: iron sharpens iron. Not every one is called to adopt; but we are called to care (James 1:27). Take the ride of a lifetime: join us on the adoption train and leave your mark on the “Fields of the Fatherless” (Deuteronomy 24).

Thanks for visiting FAMILIES. BYGOD. May God bless your adoption journey.
